KPI wants to build cogeneration plants to minimize energy costs

Exclusive National Technical University of Ukraine “Kyiv Polytechnic Institute named after Igor Sikorsky” plans to become autonomous in power supply, energy efficiency and minimization spend on energy security.

The rector of the university, Anatoly Melnychenko, told Ukrinform about this in an interview.

“We are working on a project to install cogeneration units that allow us to simultaneously generate thermal energy for burning buildings and generate electrical energy. It is important for us to confirm that we, as a leading technical university, can respond to the call. Energy saving and energy efficiency are one of the warehouse development strategies of the university, confirmed in the beginning of 2024,” he said.

“Our task is to find ways to diversify energy resources so that the lighting process is ensured without interruption. We installed dormouse panels for the life of the library for sponsorship fees. This is extremely important, because we have an electronic archive (about 67 thousand items). Access to servers that host the electronic repository is uninterrupted. Before speaking, everything that KPI sees is in electronic form. In addition, the library saves over 2 million copies,” he said.

Melnichenko added that recently the university opened an autonomous solar power plant for a friend, so as to revive the Center for Collective Development of Scientific Ownership. Now it is planned to install a solar station in one of the buildings at the Faculty of Informatics and Computational Engineering for the benefit of international scientific projects.

As reported by Ukrinform, NAZK and the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute named after Igor Sikorsky have placed a memorandum on a new practice, whereby students of IT specialties will be able to undergo internships and practical training in agencies.
