According to sources, raising such an amount will help solve the company's problems with scaling. The project also aims to address the shortage of chips needed to develop new AI-based systems.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has proposed potential partnerships with several chip makers, energy suppliers and various investors, the sources noted. OpenAI is expected to become a “major customer” of the new production, they added.
Dialogue with investors, including the government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), is aimed at removing constraints to the company's business growth, such as shortages of expensive AI- chips for training large language models that underlie ChatGPT and other AI tools.
