Denmark to stop mail delivery

Denmark's national postal service PostNord will stop delivering letters at the end of 2025. Since the beginning of the century, the volume of letters sent has decreased by 90%. This is reported by the BBC, as reported by European Pravda. According to the publication, the corresponding decision will put an end to the 400-year history of the company's postal service.

What is known

From the beginning of June, 1,500 post boxes will gradually disappear in Denmark.

Transport Minister Thomas Danielsen reassures, noting that letters can still be sent and received, since “there is a free market for both letters and parcels.”

However, with the development of digital postal services, the use of traditional letters has declined sharply.

PostNord says it will switch its focus to parcel delivery and any stamps purchased this year or in 2024 will be refundable for a limited period in 2026.

One and a half thousand workers may lose their jobs. The company employs 4,600 workers in total.

Digitalization in Denmark

Denmark is one of the most digitalized countries in the world. Few people use cash, and Danes can carry their driver's licenses and health cards on their smartphones. Bank statements, bills, and correspondence from local authorities are sent electronically.

Public services send messages via the Digital Post app or other platforms, and PostNord Denmark says the letter market is no longer profitable.
