From June 1, 2024 to March 2, 2025, banks received 3,879 applications from businesses for lending to energy infrastructure restoration projects for a total of UAH 81.7 billion and began financing such projects (provided loans and opened limits) for UAH 14.1 billion. This is evidenced by the data of a survey of 20 banks conducted by the NBU on lending to energy infrastructure restoration projects.

It is noted that the volume of the gross portfolio of loans for energy needs of legal entities, taking into account repayments as of the beginning of March, is UAH 8.5 billion.
In particular, according to the survey, for February:
- 194 applications from businesses were received for a total of UAH 6.7 billion; 70 applications were approved for a total of UAH 753 million; 94 loans were provided for a total of UAH 914 million.
The total generation capacity financed since June through loans provided to businesses amounts to more than 549 MW.
The largest amounts of funds were allocated for the purchase and installation of gas piston cogeneration units (219 MW), construction of solar power plants (162 MW), and purchase of diesel and gasoline generators (124 MW). Projects are financed in 21 regions of the country.
In general, business loans for energy needs require appropriate design, equipment purchase and provide for phased financing, so the actual volumes of loans provided are less than the volumes of applications received by banks.
The amount of applications received is also inflated due to clients submitting applications to several banks at the same time and then choosing one of them or refusing the loan altogether in favor of alternative sources of financing.
Lending to the population
In addition, banks also provide loans to the population. During February, citizens were granted 558 loans for energy needs in the amount of UAH 105 million, and in total since June – 6,266 loans in the amount of UAH 836 million. The volume of the gross portfolio of loans to individuals for these purposes, taking into account repayment, is UAH 712 million.
Let us recall
In June 2024, 20 banks with a share of more than 85% of the net assets of the banking system signed a memorandum of readiness to finance the restoration of energy.
In particular, entrepreneurs can attract financing for projects to build solar, wind or biogas power plants, build gas turbine and gas piston power plants, purchase industrial batteries, storage devices, etc.
The base lending rate in accordance with the memorandum is from 13.5% per annum (or UIRD3M + 0.5% for the first year of financing, and then no more than UIRD12M + 3%).
