Statement of the European Parliament

“We, the Presidents of the main political groups of the European Parliament, are alone in calling on all EU heads of state and governments that will meet at the extraordinary meeting of the European Council to take the decisions necessary to overcome the extraordinary challenges facing Ukraine. We call on the European Council and EU member states to fulfill their promises and provide effective, long-term and sustainable military support to Ukraine, to intensify efforts to supply ammunition and military assistance that the Ukrainian Armed Forces so urgently need,” the appeal says.

As noted, the leaders of the leading political groups of the European Parliament expect that the European Council will agree on the provision of economic and financial support within the framework of the Ukrainian Fund (Ukraine Facility) proposed in the multi-year EU budget, which will help Ukraine maintain the capacity of schools, hospitals and social services, will contribute to economic and social recovery and national recovery.

“Further delays or annual vetoes are unacceptable. The European Union emerged from the lessons learned during the devastating Second World War. In the face of the destruction caused by Russia in Ukraine, the EU must now again prove its solidarity and ability to act,” the joint statement notes.

“Those who doubt our resolve and undermine our unity must be convinced that such opinions are wrong,” added leading European politicians.

Manfred signed the document Weber, head of the EPP group, Iratche García Pérez, head of the S&D Group, Valerie Hayer, head of the Renew Europe Group, Thierry Reintke and Philippe Lamberts, co-chairs of the Green group/European Free Alliance, Richard Antoni Legutko and Nikola of the ECR group.
