“Over two years of full-scale war, a number of decisions in the banking sector worked to strengthen the stability of the deposit guarantee system and contributed to maintaining public confidence in the banking system as a whole. Despite all the obstacles, the Fund did not stop guaranteed payments and over these two years paid out about UAH 9 billion to investors.

In addition, compensation can now be received remotely through “Diya”. The results of the study showed us that we have chosen the right direction of movement, Ukrainians trust banks, the volume of deposits is growing,” said Svetlana Rekrut, Managing Director of the Guarantee Fund.

According to the study, more than half of the respondents – 52% – had previously heard about the Deposit Guarantee Fund. This figure increased by 18% compared to 2021. At the same time, it is necessary to inform the population about the amount of guaranteed compensation.

Due to the introduction of martial law due to the full-scale invasion of Russia in Ukraine, the amount of the guaranteed amount reimbursed by the Fund has changed.

Since April 2022, changes to the law came into force, which established that for the duration of martial law and three months after its end, 100% guarantees on deposits are in effect, and after this period, the guaranteed amount will be 600 thousand UAH.

However, the percentage of respondents who correctly indicated the guaranteed amount for the period of martial law is 20%. This value is less than in 2021 – then 44% of respondents noted their awareness.

This can be explained by significant changes in the terms of the guarantee; by 2022, the maximum guaranteed amount was 200 thousand. During this time, depositors well remembered the amount of guaranteed compensation, since the Fund conducted information campaigns, and banks also introduced depositors to a certificate about the deposit guarantee system for individuals indicating the amount of guaranteed compensation.
