The company will offer such parcels for sale through auctions on the Prozorro.Sale platform.

It is noted that a similar approach is common among international postal operators and logistics companies, such as Amazon, USPS, FedEx, Royal Mail and many others.

Postage that the recipient has not picked up within two weeks is sent back by Ukrposhta to the sender. If the sender does not pick up the parcel within two weeks, then it is delivered to a specially equipped warehouse, where it is stored for six months.

During this period, both the recipient and the sender have the right to receive the parcel upon request. If for some reason they did not do this, then the parcel can now be sold at auction.

“In this way, the company will have the opportunity to compensate for the costs that it incurred on logistics and storage of postal items during this period “, the message says.

The starting price for each unclaimed parcel is 10 UAH. Parcels are combined into pallets containing up to 100 units and sold as one lot. Lots will be generated randomly, and all parcels will be sold unpacked with address information removed.

“Neither the company nor the potential buyers will know what they contain when the auction results are announced. To eliminate the possibility of a corruption component in the formation of lots, company employees cannot participate in auctions,” the company added.

Unclaimed parcels

General Director of Ukrposhta Igor Smilyansky said that there are tens of thousands in the company’s warehouses unclaimed parcels that are stored there for more than six months. Previously, such mail items were simply destroyed.

Beware of scammers

Frequently, scammers use the global practice of selling undelivered parcels by sending an SMS message with an offer to purchase one parcel. At the company's auctions, only group lots will be sold. Therefore, if you are offered to purchase one parcel, this is a sign of fraudulent activity.

Recall that Ukrainians were warned that mailing of deceptive messages on behalf of Ukrposhta has recently intensified.
