They noted that the classic handbrake in a car is a handle with a lock and a metal cable. If the water that gets into the mechanism freezes, the handbrake may simply lock. Much worse — break.

Moreover, the drive slowly but surely loses its properties over time. Moisture, penetrating into the hub structure and freezing between the brake disc and pad, deactivates them quite quickly.

It is, of course, possible to tear off frozen pads, but there is a risk of damaging the mechanisms and breaking the cable. However, a sudden start from a standstill also does not always eliminate the problem, and therefore you will have to melt the parts with a hairdryer or hot water.

As for the electronic parking brake, the drive here — electromechanical, which «bites» pads are much more efficient than a manual mechanism. In other words, the above-mentioned problems for an automatic design are much more pressing.

To avoid negative consequences, experts recommend using the parking brake only when parked for short periods in the cold.

Recall that it was previously reported that scientists have revealed the secret of blue-eyed people: research data.
