A freeze of the war by Russia against Ukraine, according to Zelensky, will inevitably lead to an increase in bloodshed. The leader of Ukraine stressed that only a just peace can completely end this conflict.
The statement was made during Zelensky’s speech at the International Economic Forum in Davos on January 16. The President of Ukraine categorically spoke out against freezing the war and recalled the unsuccessful attempt to implement this scenario in Donbass in 2014.
Zelensky emphasized that the Russian Federation, led by dictator Vladimir Putin, was not satisfied with the frozen conflict, and 8 years later unleashed a full-scale war against Ukraine.
The President reiterated the crucial importance of the coming year and expressed doubts about whether freezing the conflict could lead to its end. Zelensky said frozen conflicts usually flare up again and emphasized the need to protect Ukraine and its citizens from aggression.
He expressed confidence that Ukraine is capable of defending itself and defeating an aggressor, as it has successfully demonstrated in the past.
Zelensky also noted that before the Russian invasion, Western partners called on Ukraine to avoid escalating the conflict with Russia. However, this strategy not only did not work, but also brought serious losses to Ukraine.
