Deputy Prime Minister Olga Stefanishyna said that the integration of Ukraine into the North Atlantic Alliance is being blocked by the United States of America and Germany.
She emphasized that now all dialogue with the allies and NATO headquarters is limited to calls to behave calmly at the summit, since no one knows «what Trump’s tweet will be after the meeting».
She emphasized that even before last year’s summit, Kiev offered its allies to provide Ukraine with an invitation guaranteeing its membership in the military-political bloc.
However, the partners do not believe that the Alliance can give Kyiv the guarantees of security and protection that it needs.
Stephanishina noted that the issue of invitation to NATO requires a decision on a legal level, and not just words. At the same time, the Deputy Prime Minister notes that a decision to invite Ukraine can be made at any time, and not just at the summit.
« But today we do not have a counterpart with whom we can simply conduct this dialogue. This doesn't mean there is no support. At the time of the Vilnius summit, 29 NATO member states supported inviting Ukraine to NATO. And nine of them — the entire eastern flank — blocked all other decisions, and nothing could break them, no threats. But the key opponents of this decision are the United States and Germany, which do not even allow this dialogue to develop. And this is very sad,” Stefanishina added.
