Institute of Study Analysts war noted that Russia will try to respond to the “breakthrough” in the Kursk region.
ISW reported this information, URA-Inform reports.
In particular, the Russian military command has a number of possible courses of action that it could use in response to the operation in Kursk. According to experts, the Kremlin will try to regain control of the lost territories in the Kursk region and stop the Ukrainian Armed Forces from advancing deep into Russia.
«A significant advance of Ukraine deep into Russia would be a strategic blow to Russian President Vladimir Putin's long-standing efforts to consolidate the legacy of Russian stability, security, and geopolitical revival,— the ISW report says.
Therefore, analysts believe that Russia could respond to the Ukrainian operation in Kursk region in several scenarios:
— the Russian military command could decide to use existing conscripts, border guards of the Federal Security Service, the Russian National Guard and other irregular forces already deployed in the area of the international border to push back Ukrainian troops and defend against the Ukrainian operation in Kursk region;
— the Russian military command may decide to use the existing Northern Group of Forces deployed along the Russian-Ukrainian border to respond to a Ukrainian operation in the Kursk region. This option will be implemented if offensive operations by the Northern Group of Forces in the north of the Kharkov region are considered less of a priority than defensive operations in the Kursk region;
— the Russian military command may decide to transfer operational reserves accumulated for the planned offensive in the summer of 2024, as well as relatively better-supplied and more combat-ready units to the Kursk region from other parts of the front;
— the Russian military command may try to preserve the forces that are in the Kursk region, but may redeploy a significant number of aircraft and strike units there to increase Russia's ability to retake the territory;
— Russian troops may also deploy ground strike forces and assets in and near the Kursk region to contain the advance of Ukrainian troops and disrupt the consolidation of Ukrainian positions on Russian territory.
The Institute also added that the lack of a coordinated Russian response to the invasion of Kursk and the speed of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' advance indicate that Ukrainian forces “were able to achieve operational surprise along the border with Russia.”
Recall that it was previously reported that the offensive on the Kursk region: the State Duma found the culprits and threatened a “strategic response.”
