A 6-year-old girl died after being injured in a go-kart accident at a trampoline adventure park in Florida, Baltimore Chronicle.

First responders were sent to the Urban Air Trampoline and Adventure Park in Port St. Lucie on Saturday just before 9 p.m. following a report from park staff about a go-kart accident involving a child, according to the Port St. Lucie Police Department. The girl was airlifted to a hospital in Fort Pierce and succumbed to her injuries on Sunday.

“Detectives are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident,” the police department said in a statement on Monday. The medical examiner’s findings are still pending, a spokesperson added earlier in the day. Police have not released further details, including the nature of the injuries, citing the ongoing investigation. Authorities have also notified the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, “as required,” the department confirmed.

An Urban Air representative told ABC’s West Palm Beach affiliate WPBF that the company is cooperating with state and local authorities during the investigation. “We are heartbroken by the tragic incident that occurred at the Port St. Lucie, Florida park over the weekend. Our deepest sympathies go out to the child’s family and loved ones,” the spokesperson stated. “Our policies, procedures, and equipment are designed to keep children and families safe, and the well-being of the children and families we serve is always our top priority.”

The park remains closed “while we focus on supporting the investigation and keeping everyone affected by this terrible tragedy in our thoughts,” the statement continued. The Port St. Lucie location of the indoor adventure park franchise includes trampolines, go-karts, bumper cars, a zip line, and laser tag.
