Police detain suspects in car arson in Kharkiv
On the night of August 1, the Kharkiv police received a report of a Jeep Grand Cherokee on fire. The car belongs to a serviceman.
This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Kharkiv region.
“While responding to the call, the police found two men who were running in the opposite direction from the scene of the incident. They turned out to be residents of Kharkiv, aged 30 and 47, one of whom has been repeatedly convicted of “committing property crimes,” the police said, adding that the detainees had an incendiary mixture with them.

As it turned out, the men were to receive 40 thousand hryvnia for the destruction of the vehicle.
The men were informed of suspicion of committing crimes under Part 2 of Article 194 (intentional destruction or damage to property) and Part 1 of Article 114-1 (obstruction of the lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
For what they have done, they face up to 10 years in prison.
- About 40 cases of arson of military vehicles were recorded in Kharkov and the region. The police have identified all the arsonists, who are mostly young people aged 12 to 18.
- Law enforcement officers have exposed 68 people involved in setting fire to military and volunteer equipment. More car fires have been recorded in Kyiv, Odessa, Dnepr and Kharkov.
