Ukraine has managed to return 10 more children as part of the Bring Kids Back UA initiative, said the head of the Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak.
According to him, the children are aged 13 to 17. Among them are two pupils of the Oleshky Children's Home in the Kherson region.
Qatar facilitated the return of the children. They are receiving all the necessary assistance for rehabilitation.
Ombudsman Dmitry Lubinets noted that among those returned are nine children and a 20-year-old young man with his brother. Some of them have disabilities and serious illnesses. The children are from the Kherson, Zaporizhia, Donetsk, Luhansk regions and Crimea. The Human Rights Commissioner also denied media reports about an agreement brokered by Qatar with Kiev and Moscow on the “exchange” of children. He said that Qatar is acting as an intermediary in the return of illegally deported and forcibly displaced children. At the same time, Ukraine has not kidnapped and does not hold Russian children on its territory, and does not prevent their return to Russia if they are on our territory. The United Nations has announced a shortage of the necessary funds to help Ukraine survive the winter, since Russian bombings have destroyed half of the power grid, writes the American financial weekly Barron's.
“The reality is that the funding situation for organisations like ours is very low at this time of year – we are 47 per cent funded,” UNHCR spokeswoman Caroline Lindholm Billing told AFP.
UNHCR is helping local Ukrainian organisations accommodate displaced people and providing assistance to the most vulnerable to help them survive the winter.
