This is the first state visit by a US president to Germany since its reunification.
Joe Biden in Berlin
US President Joe Biden has arrived in Berlin, where he is scheduled to hold a meeting in the “Quartet” format with the leaders of Germany, France and the United Kingdom.
According to Reuters, the main topic of the talks with Olaf Scholz, Emmanuel Macron and Keir Starmer will be “the situation on the battlefield in Ukraine, the trajectory of the war and how allies can best help Ukraine.”
Before that, Biden will also meet with Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. This state visit to Germany is the first for any US president since 1985, when Ronald Reagan visited before the country was reunited.
Biden's arrival in Berlin was expected last week, but due to the situation with Hurricane Milton, the owner of the White House changed his plans. In addition to the date, the program of the visit was also adjusted: the meeting in the Rammstein format, which was supposed to be attended by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, was removed from it, and the trip itself was significantly shortened – Biden will spend less than one day in Germany.
