The French President explained the logic behind granting Ukraine this permission.
Emmanuel Macron
During the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro, French President Emmanuel Macron commented to the press on the long-awaited granting of permission to Ukraine by the Biden administration to use American-made weapons for strikes deep into Russian territory.
According to Reuters, the French leader called it a “good decision” and explained that it was a response to the Russians' involvement of North Korean troops in war in Ukraine. According to Macron, such a move by the Kremlin was regarded as an “escalation of the conflict.”
The French President did not tell journalists whether the lifting of the ban on long-range weapons applies to French SCALP missiles.
- Le Figaro initially reported that France had also granted Ukraine permission to use its missiles on Russian territory, but then removed this mention from its materials.
