In only one of the seven countries did half of the respondents speak out against “reconciliation”.
War from Russia
The YouGov organization conducted a survey in seven European countries regarding the desired scenario for ending the war in Ukraine. The results show a significant drop in support for politicians' statements about “helping Ukraine to victory”.
According to The Guardian, only in Sweden do exactly half of the respondents consider the defeat of the Russian aggressor and the return of all occupied territories to be essential conditions for peace. A year ago, this figure exceeded 60%. For negotiations even with territorial concessions – 24%.
In Denmark and Britain, Ukraine's victory still remains a priority for citizens – 40% and 36%, respectively. In Germany and Spain, the population has radically changed its opinion over the past year: about a quarter of respondents here are for complete de-occupation and military defeat of the Kremlin, and 45-46% would rather see the victim and the aggressor at the negotiating table.
The situation has worsened in the countries where the scenario of territorial concessions still gained more votes. In France, where a year ago both answer options were within the margin of error, 43% of citizens are already for negotiations and only 23% believe that the war should continue until Ukraine is victorious.
Italy turned out to be the country with the smallest number of supporters of Ukraine's victory – 15% against 55% for negotiations and the loss of territory by Ukraine.
In each of the countries, at least 1,000 citizens were surveyed between December 3 and December 18.
