Karol Nawrocki made Ukraine's membership in the EU and NATO dependent on historical issues.
As stated on the website of the Foreign Ministry, these statements “are tendentious and manipulative and indicate that the Polish politician puts opportunistic considerations above the interests of his country.”
The government emphasizes that a constructive dialogue on issues of common historical past continues between the Ukrainian and Polish sides. This topic “should not be used in domestic political struggle.”
Navrotsky's statement, as diplomats say, “caused applause in the Kremlin.” The Foreign Ministry reminds that it was Russia that has been trying to destroy the Ukrainian and Polish states for centuries and is now making colossal efforts to destroy Ukrainian-Polish friendship – “it is unacceptable to say anything that plays into these aspirations.”
- In response to Hungary's accusations of stopping gas transit, the Foreign Ministry said that it is ready to take the country's place in the EU and NATO if it is so eager to join the Russian CSTO and CIS.
