AirPods will get live language translation feature

Apple is preparing a major update for its AirPods headphones that will allow them to perform live language translation in real time. As IZ reports with reference to Bloomberg, the new feature is expected to appear in 2025 with the release of iOS 19. It will allow users to hear the translated language directly in their headphones, which will greatly facilitate communication between people who speak different languages. The company is not yet disclosing all the technical details, but this feature should become one of the key innovations next year.

The live translation feature will work thanks to the synchronous interaction of AirPods and iPhone. When someone speaks a foreign language, the smartphone will perform an instant translation and transmit it to the user's headphones. In response, when the owner of the AirPods speaks in their own language, the device will also translate their words for the interlocutor. A similar technology is already implemented in the Translate application for iPhone, but its integration into AirPods will make communication even more convenient.

Apple has yet to officially comment on the feature, but its introduction could be a response to competition from Google. The Pixel Buds already have a similar live translation mode, and Apple is likely looking to keep up with the technology.
