The Netherlands has extended the stay of its contingent in Lithuania until 2026

Military of the Dutch army continues the military mission in Lithuania. A contingent of 350 Dutch army soldiers will remain in the Baltic republic at least until 2026.

As Ukrinform writes, the military presence is seen as a means of “containing Russia and ensuring security in Europe.”

The Netherlands has been participating in the enhanced forward presence mission in Lithuania since 2017. In 2021, the government of the kingdom has already decided to extend the period of stay of soldiers.

In addition to the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Norway and the Czech Republic have their own contingents in the Baltic region.

  • The Netherlands has intention to transfer F-16 fighters to Ukraine in the fall.
