Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has accused the European Union of driving the continent toward war and announced the launch of a large-scale petition campaign opposing such ambitions. The Hungarian leader made the statement in a video message posted on his official Facebook page, reports Baltimore Chronicle, citing the prime minister’s publication.

In his remarks, Orbán stated that “Europe is drifting ever faster toward war.” He recalled that several weeks ago, during a meeting in Copenhagen, Brussels unveiled what he described as a “military plan,” envisioning that European nations would provide funding, Ukrainians would fight, and Russia would eventually be weakened by a prolonged conflict. However, he noted that no details were given about the plan’s duration or cost. “Instead of a real strategy, Brussels offered only dreams,” Orbán said, criticizing what he views as the European Union’s lack of clarity and responsibility.

The Hungarian prime minister stressed that his country rejects such a course and is determined to make clear its commitment to peace. To that end, the government is launching a petition campaign inviting citizens to express their opposition to Brussels’ military proposals. “We cannot sit idly by. The Hungarian people must once again show that they do not want war. That is why we are starting the collection of signatures against Brussels’ military plans today. We will be present in every city and village, because now we need all peace-loving Hungarians,” Orbán declared.
