On December 15, two tankers, Volgoneft-212 and Volgoneft-239, “fell apart” in the Kerch Strait after encountering a storm. Fuel oil that Russian vessels were transporting leaked into the Black Sea.

As NBN reports with reference to the explanation voiced by the spokesman of the Ukrainian Navy Dmitry Pletenchuk on the air of the telethon on the YouTube channel “TSN”, Ukraine may also suffer from the above-described oil leak, since the Black Sea “has no fences”.
Based on Pletenchuk’s words, the consequences of this eco-catastrophe will affect not only the southern shores of Ukraine, but also the coastal waters of the Crimean peninsula, as is now observed near Anapa (Krasnodar Krai, Russian Federation). However, it is too early to panic, since only after the weather conditions change will it be possible to obtain appropriate satellite images that will allow us to assess the situation caused by the fuel oil leak.
The spokesman for the Ukrainian Navy added: – Ukraine cannot consider the situation as a whole separately from the contaminated locations, since it shares the Black and Azov Seas with the Russian Federation.
Pletenchuk summed it up:
Flora and fauna suffer regardless of their location in the Black Sea. Therefore, yes, the consequences will most likely be assessed in the future, but they all have the characteristics of an ecological catastrophe.
Earlier, we wrote about Pletenchuk reporting how many sea-based missiles the Russian Federation launched during the strike on Ukraine on December 25.
