Not long ago, President Volodymyr Zelensky said that in order to reliably contain the aggressor country, a 200,000-strong contingent of Western peacekeepers should be deployed in Ukraine.

As NBN reports, citing the opinion of Larisa Brown, who is the editor of defense for The Times, in order to deploy the above-described number of peacekeeping forces, Western countries will need to attract at least 600,000 people.

Based on Brown's words, such a significant increase in the number of potential peacekeepers is explained by the fact that there is a need to accumulate additional forces to carry out regular rotations of personnel: while 200,000 people are preparing to be sent to Ukraine, another 200,000 servicemen must undergo rehabilitation, and another 200,000 must defend the “buffer zone”.

In addition, the editor is confident that the number of these forces must be quite large in order to effectively deter an attack by the Russian Federation, and their capabilities must be highly combat-ready in order to quickly counter and repel any type of invasion.

At the same time, the UK/French units are more likely to become “deterrent forces” than exclusively peacekeepers, since they retain commitment to Ukraine. However, such European troops would not fight on the front lines, but would only act to stabilize the situation, ensuring that Putin's army does not advance deep into our territory.

Earlier we wrote that Kellogg reported the timeframe in which the US intends to achieve an end to the war in Ukraine.
