As NBN reports with reference to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), the activation of Putin’s troops in the border areas of Sumy Oblast is not an exceptional sign indicating the approach of a full-scale offensive by the Russian Armed Forces.

According to analysts at the Institute for the Study of War, the Russians are seeking to seize a bridgehead in Sumy region, and likely to use offensive actions in this Ukrainian region to support a potential “spring operation” in the northern part of the region, intending, among other things, to “squeeze out” the Defense Forces of our country from their positions in Kursk region.

It should be noted that a day earlier, on March 27, President Volodymyr Zelensky issued a warning: the Russian generals had been planning an offensive in the Sumy and Kharkiv regions for 8 months, but due to the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ raid in August in the Kursk region, the implementation of this enemy plan was postponed until the spring of 2025.

It should be added that a number of Ukrainian officials expressed doubts regarding the ability of the Russian occupation army to carry out effective offensive actions in the two regions mentioned, especially in the city of Sumy.
