The fact that the EU countries need to move to the emergency formation of their own united army, whose tasks would include maintaining peace and preventing conflicts, writes NBN, citing a statement by the head of the Italian Foreign Ministry, Antonio Tajani, published at Reuters.
According to Tajani, more intensive European cooperation in the defense sphere is a key priority of the Forza Italia party he heads. In particular, if EU states intend to remain peacemakers, they must consider a European army, which is a fundamental prerequisite for maintaining an effective foreign policy. However, at first, the EU should transform its hierarchy of officials in order to have a single president instead of the current fragmented structure.
The Italian Foreign Minister emphasized that on a planet with such powerful players as the USA, China, India and Russian Federation, taking into account several crises in the Middle East and the Indo-Pacific region, European citizens can feel protected only by what already exists, the EU.
