The legendary British actress is returning to the big screen with a new iconic role. 91-year-old Joan Collins will play socialite Wallis Simpson in the film “The Bitter End”, which will tell about the last years of the life of the woman for whom King Edward VIII abdicated, reports WomanEL.
According to The Guardian, the film is called “The Bitter End” (formerly known as “In Bed with the Duchess”). The project is directed by Mike Newell, known for the films “Four Weddings and a Funeral” and “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire”.

Joan announced her role on Instagram and shared her excitement for the upcoming work.
I am thrilled to play Wallis Simpson, Duchess of Windsor, in the untold story of her final years, which will soon begin filming in London and Paris, — wrote Collins.
The actress has long been fascinated by the history of the British monarchy. This role will be an opportunity for her to delve deeper into one of the most scandalous royal stories of the 20th century.
The plot will focus on the last years of the life of Wallis Simpson, who, after the death of her husband, the Duke of Windsor, lived alone in Paris. The film will explore not only her love story, but also the loneliness, alienation and pressure from society that she had to face in her last years.
The life of Wallis Simpson remains one of the most discussed stories of the British monarchy. The twice-divorced American became the woman for whom King Edward VIII abdicated the throne in 1936. After the abdication, they lived in exile, and the British royal family did not recognize their union for many years.
The film will start filming in 2025 in London and Paris. The premiere date has not yet been announced, but the film is expected to be released in late 2025 or early 2026.
