How to Dye Eggs for Easter 2024 Using a Tie for a Beautiful Pattern

Looking for new ways to dye Easter eggs at home in a unique way? Then you need to pay attention to a life hack with old silk ties (or scarves). You won't believe how easy it is to transfer patterns from fabric to regular white eggs. Plus it's so sentimental: for example, you can use grandpa's old ties.

Wrap the eggs in a 100% silk cloth and then boil them in vinegar to set the design – it's that easy! WomanEL advises choosing bold patterns and a variety of colors. For brightness, choose dark versions of red, blue, purple and green. Do you want tenderness? Then take pastel-colored fabric.

  • An important point. These eggs are for decorative purposes only. We do not recommend eating them. Add the finished eggs to your Easter basket or use them as part of your annual egg hunt.

Follow our simple instructions and your eggs will be ready in less than an hour.

  • Cut out the fabric. Cut the tie into large pieces to cover the eggs. We found that the bottom third of the tie was large enough to cover one egg. Cut the tie down the middle and remove the inner fabric and scraps to cover the egg.
  • Wrap the fabric tightly around the egg, being careful not to damage the shell. Try to smooth out wrinkles and folds. The pattern will be clear if you achieve maximum density.
  • Wrap the egg in cotton cloth. Cut a slightly larger square from white cotton fabric. White thread or rubber band will help secure the fabric.
  • Move carefully into the pan so as not to break it. Add cold water. Important: There should be at least 2.5 cm between the top of the eggs and the surface of the water.
  • Add 6 cups of white vinegar. How to cook them? Turn heat to medium and bring to a boil. Cook for at least 20 minutes total.
  • Remove the eggs from the pan and place them on a baking sheet lined with paper towels to cool.
  • When the eggs have cooled, cut off the cotton and silk fabric each egg. Gently wipe the eggs dry to remove excess moisture. Do not reuse fabrics for dyeing. They have already served their purpose.
  • If you want to add shine to your silk tie Easter eggs, rub them with vegetable oil. But this is optional. Store in the refrigerator until you are ready to add to an Easter dish or basket.
