Daria Bilodid won the award at the first start of the Olympic season.
The Ukrainian national team in judo won the first medal at the Grand Slam series tournament, which takes place in the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku. “Bronze” was won by Daria Bilodid.
The 23-year-old Ukrainian judoka won a medal in the weight category up to 57 kilograms.
Belodid began the competition with victories over Maria Escano from Guam and Finnish Pihla Salonen. In the quarterfinals, Daria lost to two-time world champion Christy Deguchi from Canada.
The Ukrainian got the opportunity to compete for bronze in the repechage bouts. There, Bilodid defeated Maysa Pardaeva from Turkmenistan, and then in the “bronze” final she defeated the Dutchwoman Julie Buerskens with an ippon technique.
Note that for Daria these were the first competitions after a long break; she did not compete for six months due to back injuries.
In general, this is the eighth award for Bilodid at Grand Slam tournaments and the second after moving to the weight category up to 57 kg. In total, the Ukrainian has four golds, one silver and three bronzes.
We would like to remind you that Daria previously competed in the weight category up to 48 kg, where she won bronze at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
