Michel's charges failed to get closer to Real Madrid in the championship race.
Girona lost to Ukrainians Artem Dovbik and Viktor Tsygankov on the road to Athleticin the final match of the 25th round of the Spanish La Liga. The match at the San Mamés stadium in Bilbao ended with the score 3:2.
The Basques took the lead in the second minute of the match through the efforts of Alex Berenguer. Before the break, the hosts had several more dangerous chances, but they did not capitalize on them.
At the start of the second half, the Catalans bounced back – in the 49th minute, Tsygankov successfully put his foot in the goalkeeper's area after a cross from the left flank of the penalty area from Ivan Martin .
For Victor this is the fifth goal this season in the Spanish Championship. He also has three assists.

However, Athletic very quickly responded to the missed goal, and dealt Michel's charges a double blow. First, in the 56th minute, Berenguer scored a double, and four minutes later, Iñaki Williams scored.
In the 75th minute, the Girona team managed to reduce the gap in the score to a minimum – after a free kick, Aleix Garcia made the discount, and Eric Garcia headed the ball into the goal.
However, the Catalan club did not have enough strength to score and avoid defeat. Thus, the Girona team's winless streak in La Liga extended to three matches.
Note that Dovbik and Tsygankov entered the field in the Girona starting lineup. Artem played until the final whistle, and Victor was replaced in the 89th minute.

After this match, Girona (56 points) ranks second in La Liga and is 6 points behind the championship leader Real Madrid, Ukrainian goalkeeper Andrey Lunin. Athletic (49 points) are in fifth position.
In the next round, Girona will host Rayo Vallecano on February 26. A day earlier, Athletic will meet Betis away.
