Elina Svitolina ended her run at Roland Garros after losing to world number one Iga Swiatek in the quarterfinals, with a final score of 0–6, 2–6. The Ukrainian tennis player admitted she couldn’t challenge her opponent or display her best tennis, reports Baltimore Chronicle.
Svitolina pointed out that she faced difficulties right from the start of the match. According to her, she couldn’t adjust to the rhythm of the game, and her serve wasn’t working as it should. The athlete acknowledged that the result was disappointing, as she was unable to enter the court with the confidence and aggression she had shown in previous rounds.
She also emphasized that Swiatek delivered a high-level performance, playing fast, precise, and aggressively, which didn’t allow her to fully implement her own tactics. Svitolina admitted she wasn’t prepared for such an intense pace and made too many unforced errors, which turned out to be crucial at key moments of the match.
Despite the defeat, Elina thanked her fans for their support and said that this tournament was an important step in her journey to returning to top-level competition.
