Christian Shevchenko was included in the application of the Ukrainian U-19 national team for the matches of the elite round of selection for Euro 2024.
The son of the President of the Ukrainian Football Association (UAF) Andrey Shevchenko, 17-year-old Christian received his debut call-up to the Ukrainian youth team (U-19).
The day before, Shevchenko Jr. received Ukrainian citizenship, which gives him the opportunity to play for the Ukrainian national teams.
After this, the head coach of the Ukrainian youth team (U-19) Dmitry Mikhailenko determined the team composition for the matches of the elite round of selection for Euro 2024. Christian Shevchenko was also included in the list of 20 players, reports the official website of the UAF.
Note that Christian Shevchenko was born in London in 2006. He began his football career at the Chelsea academy. In the summer of 2023, he signed a contract with the English Watford, where he now plays for the U-18 team as a center forward.
Christian Shevchenko is the second of four sons of Andrei Shevchenko and American model Kristen Pazik. The couple also have 20-year-old Jordan, 12-year-old Alexander and Ryder-Gabriel, who is 10 years old.
Christian himself has already commented on his debut call-up to the Ukrainian U-19 national team.
” Of course, it is always an honor to be called up to the Ukrainian national team. I look forward to future opportunities and look forward to the chance to meet my teammates and coaches.
I will do my best to help the team in the upcoming matches and bring joy to our country Glory to Ukraine,” Shevchenko Jr. said in a comment to Tribuna.com.
According to the results of the elite round draw, the “blue-yellows” were in group 7, where they will play with the teams of Switzerland, North Macedonia and Latvia. The mini-tournament will be hosted by North Macedonia, with the quartet's matches taking place on March 20-26 in Skopje.
The winners of the elite round groups will join host Northern Ireland in the final stage, which will take place July 15-28, 2024 and will become a selection from UEFA for the 2025 World Cup (U-20).
