The Ukrainian women's tennis team lost the third match of the match against Romania in the Billie Jean King Cup qualification. The first racket of our country Elina Svitolina could not overcome Ana Bogdan.
The tense match lasted 2 hours 51 minutes and ended in the defeat of our compatriot with a score of 4:6, 6:4, 3:6 .
Thus, the score in the match duel became 2:1 in favor of the Ukrainians. On the first day of play, Lesya Tsurenko (defeated Ana Bogdan) and Elina Svitolina (defeated Jacqueline Christian) won their singles matches.
For the overall victory, the “blue-yellows” need to win one more duel. Ahead of April 13, Tsurenko-Christian matches are planned, as well as a doubles match, where Ukraine will be represented by Lyudmila and Nadezhda Kichenok, and Romania by Anca Todoni and Mara Gae.
We would like to add that the Romanian team is missing its leader – former world No. 1 Simona Halep, who had health problems after the tournament in Miami.
The winner of the match between Ukraine and Romania will advance to the final round of the Billie Jean King Cup, and the losing team will return to the playoff round .
Note that Ukraine is trying to get into the final part of the Billie Jean King Cup for the third year in a row. In 2022, our tennis players lost to the US team, and in 2023 – to the Czech team.
