The Ukrainian and the Briton will have two fights in Saudi Arabia.
The date has become known rematch fightbetween WBO, WBA, IBO and IBF world heavyweight champion Alexander Usik and WBC title holder Tyson Fury.
According to the organizer of the fights in Saudi Arabia, Turki Al-Sheikh, the second fight between the Ukrainian and the British is planned to be held on October 12-13, 2024in Riyadh.
In a commentary to ESPN, he confirmed that the Usyk-Fury rematch will take place regardless of how the first fight between the boxers, which is scheduled for May 18 in Riyadh, ends.
It is noted that Al-Sheikh also did not abandon the idea of staging a fight between Fury and Anthony Joshua. He wants to organize a battle between the British in March 2025.
Recall that the first fight between Usik and Fury was originally scheduled for February 17, but due to the injury that the Briton received during the time of the sparring, it had to be postponed to another date.
To avoid another breakdown of the fight, the organizers established sanctions that will be applied to Usik or Fury if one of them does not enter the ring on May 18. Boxersface a huge fineif they refuse to fight on the scheduled date.
The winner of the Usyk-Fury fight will become the first undisputed world champion in the heavyweight division in the 21st century.
The last “absolute” in the heavyweight division was Lennox Lewis, who achieved this status in 1999 when he defeated Evander Holyfield. Back then, the WBA, WBC and IBF titles were at stake. The WBO belt was recognized as equal in 2007, so the winner of the fight between Usyk and Fury will become the first ever “absolute” heavyweight with four major titles.
