Alexander Krasyuk assessed the likelihood of a second fight between Usyk and Dubois.
Don Charles, the trainer of IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois, after his ward's scheduled victory over Anthony Joshua, began to insist on a rematch against the holder of the WBC, WBA, WBO and IBO titles Alexander Usika.
The British boxer's coach believes that Dubois was unfairly defeated by Usyk in the summer of 2023 because he actually knocked out the Ukrainian.
“Why not? Daniel has already knocked out Usyk. It was a game of two halves. In football there are two halves, but in boxing, unfortunately, there is only one.
We won the first half of the fight, given, let's say, the situation with Usyk and Daniel. But Alexander won the second. Daniel has already proven that he can put him down. I will say again that it was a legitimate blow, but they decided to deprive us of it. But now I demand that they give Alexander Usyk to Daniel again,” Charles said in an interview with talkSPORT.
In response, Alexander Krasyuk, Usyk's promoter, assessed the likelihood of a second fight between his client and Dubois.
“Why not? We've seen it before, some people still have questions about the fight. There was one moment in the fight that left certain questions.
If Dubois is still healthy and ready to work, then why not? Double absolute, triple absolute – this is how history is made,” Krasyuk said in a commentary to Sky Sports.
Currently, Dubois remains the holder of one of the four main belts in the heavyweight division. The other three titles (WBA, WBO, WBC) belong to Usyk, who will have a rematch against Fury on December 21, 2024.
Recall that on the night of August 27, Usyk knocked out Dubois in the ninth round and defended his WBO, WBA, IBO and IBF heavyweight titles.
However, in the fifth round of the fight, a scandalous episode occurred – the Briton hit the Ukrainian below the belt, after which he fell to the canvas of the ring. The referee did not count the knockdown, but gave Alexander a few minutes to recover.
After the fight, Dubois said that he was robbed of the victory. According to the British boxer, his blow hit Usyk not below the belt, but right in the stomach. Daniel expressed confidence that he knocked out the Ukrainian and should have taken possession of the championship belts. In this regard, Dubois's team demanded that the result of the fight with Usyk be annulled.
Later, the WBA made an official statement, stating that Dubois's hit below the belt was a violation of the rules and, after a detailed study of the appeal, ruled that the result of the championship fight remains in force.
Dubois himself had previously expressed a desire to have a rematch with Usyk. In June 2024, after an early victory over Croatian Filip Hrgovic, he said that he wanted to become the undisputed world champion.
Earlier it was reported that Usyk reacted to Joshua's sensational knockout defeat by Dubois.
