Taisiya Babenko battled cancer.
Former Ukrainian national futsal player Taisiya Babenko has died at the age of 31.
The tragic news was reported by the Ukrainian Football Association (UAF).
It is noted that the athlete had been battling cancer for a year.
During her career, Babenko played for the futsal “Nika” and “PZMS”, football teams “Lider” and women's football club “Vorskla”, and also played for the Ukrainian national futsal and beach soccer teams.
As part of the Ukrainian futsal team, she became the vice-champion of Europe in 2023 and the bronze medalist of Euro 2022. For these achievements, she received the title of “Master of Sports of International Class”.
“This is an irreparable loss for all Ukrainian sports. Condolences to all relatives and friends of Taisiya. Eternal memory!”, – the UAF post says.
Earlier it was reported that former futsal player of the Ukrainian national team Eleonora Maltseva died in the war against the Russian occupiers.
