Ukrainian number one Marta Kostyuk (No. 21 WTA) reached the 1/8 finals of the WTA 1000 tournament in Doha (Qatar).
In the second round of the competition, The 22-year-old native of Kyiv sensationally beat the world's third-ranked American Cori Gauff. The match lasted 1 hour and 13 minutes and ended with the Ukrainian's victory with a score of 6:2, 7:5.
Before the start of the match, the bookmakers' odds for Kostyuk's victory were 4.90. For the triumph of the American representative – 1.20.
During the time spent on the court, Marta made two aces and made two double faults.
This was the fifth face-to-face meeting of the tennis players. Kostyuk managed to defeat Gauff for the second time in her career. She did this for the first time in 2024 at a tournament in Stuttgart, Germany.
