Alpine was cautiously optimistic about Friday's Australian Grand Prix practice sessions, with Jack Doohan and Pierre Gasly happy with the car and expecting a strong performance in qualifying.
Jack Doohan (14th): “The first laps in front of my fans were amazing. I felt a lot of good emotions that will stay with me throughout the weekend.
We learned a lot in both practice sessions today, trying a lot of solutions to find the right balance and make sure we are in good shape tomorrow. The car handled well in both sessions and we worked as hard as we could on track.
The team will hold a briefing where we will discuss plans for the third practice session in order to be in good shape for qualifying.”
Pierre Gasly (15th): “The first Friday practice of the season is over and it's great to be back in Melbourne. There was a lot of action on track today so it was challenging to get a clean lap and avoid traffic. We tried a lot of solutions in the first and second sessions.
The conditions were very different to those we encountered in pre-season testing in Bahrain and we have a lot to analyse to choose the right set-up for the rest of the weekend.
The forecast still shows a chance of rain, which will make the race more interesting. We will try to put everything together before the first qualifying of the season.”
