Inter Milan has officially confirmed the appointment of Cristian Chivu as the new head coach of the first team with a contract running through June 2027, reports Baltimore Chronicle.
This marks the third significant chapter in Chivu’s history with the club — following a distinguished playing career and several years as a youth coach within Inter’s structure. The Romanian specialist began his football journey under the guidance of his father at a youth club, later playing for Universitatea Craiova, Ajax, and Roma. In 2007, he joined Inter Milan, where he spent seven seasons and collected multiple prestigious trophies, including the 2009/2010 UEFA Champions League title.
One of the most defining moments of Chivu’s playing career was his courageous return to the pitch after suffering a severe head injury, an act that made him a symbol of bravery among Inter fans.
After retiring from professional football in 2014, Chivu began his coaching career at Inter’s academy. He gradually rose through the ranks, managing various age groups and even claiming a youth championship title. In 2025, he took on his first senior-level role and succeeded in keeping Parma from relegation — a crucial experience that has now led him back to Inter as head coach. The club notes that Chivu brings with him unwavering values: loyalty, self-sacrifice, and relentless dedication.
This is only the second time in the club’s history that a Romanian has taken charge of Inter’s first team. The first was Mircea Lucescu, who coached the club during the 1998–1999 season.
