Napoli won 2-1 against Milan at home in the 30th round of the Italian Serie A.
The hosts got their result from two quick goals. Alex Meret and Giovanni Di Lorenzo delivered the ball to Matteo Politano in two passes, and he dealt with Mike Maignan despite his usual weak defense from Strahinja Pavlovic. Then Kyle Walker left Romelu Lukaku in the game after a pass from Billy Gilmour, and the Belgian doubled the score.
Napoli were happy to give the ball away, but Milan didn't quite know what to do with it. The visitors only got a chance to really get back into the game midway through the second half, when a fresh Philip Billing brought down Theo Hernandez in his own penalty area, but Santiago Jimenez took a terrible shot from the spot – Meret held the ball tight.
And yet the Rossoneri managed to get back into the game – Luka Jovic scored his first goal of the season from a cross from Hernandez. There was some nervousness in the hosts' penalty area in the final minutes, but the visitors were unable to save the match.
Napoli have 64 points and have again reduced the gap with the leader Inter to three points. Milan remains ninth, 9 points away from the Champions League zone.
Milan will face Inter at home in the first semi-final of the Cup on April 2, and three days later Sergio Conceicao's team will host Fiorentina in the championship. Napoli will play Bologna away on April 7.
