Former WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo (33-0, 22 KOs) and former super middleweight champion Caleb Plant (23-2, 14 KOs) will headline the boxing evening on May 31 in Las Vegas.
Initially, it was reported that the boxers would have a face-to-face fight on this day under the auspices of Premier Boxing Champions. However, it is now expected that Caleb and Jermall will fight this fall, but only if they win at the end of May.
Plant's opponent will be Jose Armando Resendiz (15-2, 11 KOs) – this fight will headline the evening of boxing in Las Vegas. In turn, Charlo will fight against Thomas LaManna (39-5-1, 18 KOs).
Jermall Charlo's last fight was in November 2023, when he won a unanimous decision over Jose Benavidez Jr. The fight took place at 163 pounds. Jermall missed the agreed upon weight for the fight, weighing in at 166.4 pounds.
It was previously reported that in May 2024, Charlo had an accident. He crashed into another car in his Lamborghini Urus, after which he tried to flee the scene. In September, prosecutors charged the boxer with drunk driving.
Jermall's return was planned for December 2024. At that time, Charlo was supposed to appear on the undercard of Gervonta “Tank” Davis' fight with Lamont Roach, and his opponent could have been the aforementioned LaManna.
Plant won a technical knockout over Trevor McCumbee in the fall of 2024 to become the interim WBA super middleweight champion. This is Caleb's first victory since October 2022, when he knocked out Anthony Dirrell.
