IBO middleweight champion Chris Eubank Jr (34-3, 25 KOs) has appealed a £100,000 fine for being hit with an egg during the first clash of eyes with Conor Benn (23-0, 14 KOs).
“We are looking into the matter. £100,000 for throwing an egg seems a bit steep. Especially when you consider how many fines others have been given for seemingly much more serious incidents over the years. I don't think anyone has ever received a £100,000 fine.”
“Tables were thrown, people were punched in the face, slapped. 100 thousand for an egg is cool,” the boxer said.
Recall that on February 25, in the final part of the press conference between the boxers, Eubank Jr. suddenly hit Benn on the head with a chicken egg. Thus, Chris referred to the WBC statement that Benn's positive doping test could have been caused by excessive egg consumption.
The fight between Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn has been officially confirmed for April 26 in London. The bout will be the main event of the evening of boxing, which will take place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as part of the Riyadh Season.
The fight between the boxers was originally supposed to take place in 2022, but the fight was cancelled because Benn failed a doping test. Clomiphene was found in Conor's blood.
Benn was cleared by the National Anti-Doping Commission (NADP) in late July 2023. The Briton returned to the ring in September and defeated Mexican boxer Rodolfo Orozco. But the disqualification was then reinstated after a successful appeal by the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBoC) and UK Anti-Doping (UKAD).
In early November 2024, the NADP re-overturned the 28-year-old's suspension, saying they were “not entirely satisfied” that UKAD had proven Benn had violated anti-doping rules.
