In the first quarter-final match of the Champions League, London's Arsenal confidently beat Real Madrid with a score of 3:0.
The first half ended goalless, although at the very beginning the Gunners were looking for a penalty kick, but after reviewing the video replay the referee decided not to award a penalty. And after the break, Mikel Arteta's team managed to shock the current winners of the tournament.
Declan Rice scored a brace first – the English midfielder converted two spectacular free kicks. And Mikel Merino made the score crushing. The visitors failed to score a single goal until the end of the match. Moreover, in stoppage time, the Blancos were left with one man down after Eduardo Camavinga was sent off.
Arsenal's Ukrainian defender Oleksandr Zinchenko was included in the squad for the match but spent the entire game on the bench. His compatriot, Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin, was absent from the Blancos squad due to injury.
The return match between the teams will take place on Wednesday, April 16. The game starts at 22:00.
In the next round of the English championship, Arsenal will play against Brentford, and Real will play against Alaves in the Spanish La Liga.
