The fight between the Ukrainian and the Australian will take place in the Australian city of Perth. The vacant International Boxing Federation (IBF) lightweight title will be at stake.

Lomachenko last entered the ring in the night of May 21, 2023, when he lost by unanimous decision to American Devin Haney in the fight for the title of absolute world lightweight champion.

Kambosos, in his last fight in July 2023, defeated Briton Maxie Hughes to win the IBO minor lightweight title.
