The US has set a condition for Ukraine to sign a deal on minerals. Kyiv is required to agree to a quick ceasefire.

RBC-Ukraine reports this with reference to Bloomberg.

According to the publication, European officials received information that Trump wants to “link” the signing of the mineral deal to demands that Ukraine agree to a quick ceasefire.

As Bloomberg sources note, the US has “made it clear” that it is ready to complete work on an agreement with Ukraine if President Volodymyr Zelensky agrees to take the path to a ceasefire and negotiations with Moscow.

The publication's interlocutors noted that this is the only reason why the agreement between Ukraine and the United States has not yet been signed, despite Trump and Zelensky's statements about their readiness to conclude a deal.

Some Bloomberg sources said the deal could move forward in the coming days. But the U.S. position could always change, as Trump is known for changing his mind.

By the way, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky previously noted that Ukraine would agree to a ceasefire with Russia only if it was provided with security guarantees and even more military aid.

Minerals deal

Recall that Ukraine and the United States were supposed to sign a deal on minerals last week. But plans changed after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US President Donald Trump had a falling out.

The American leader recently emphasized that the United States “does not consider such an agreement dead.” American officials have repeatedly stated that this way they will be able to return “taxpayers' money” that the United States has given to Ukraine as military and financial aid.

Yesterday, March 5, White House Press Secretary Carolyn Leavitt noted that negotiations on a deal between Ukraine and the United States are ongoing.
