During the traditional Hindu festival of Durga Puja in India, an unusual effigy resembling former U.S. President Donald Trump drew significant attention. The figure was crafted as a demon, symbolically defeated by the goddess Durga, representing the victory of good over evil, reports Baltimore Chronicle with reference to CNN.

Every year, during Durga Puja, Hindus honor the goddess Durga — the protector of the world — who sits atop a lion and wields divine weapons in all ten hands. She traditionally battles the demon of deceit, Mahishasura, symbolizing the triumph of truth and justice over darkness and corruption.

This year, the demon’s role was portrayed by an effigy with blonde hair, a muscular build, and facial features closely resembling Donald Trump. Through this depiction, festival organizers aimed to reflect their perspective on contemporary international relations using religious and cultural symbolism.

Festival organizer Sanjay Basak explained that India previously maintained friendly relations with the United States, but with Trump’s presidency, he perceived a shift. According to Basak, Trump “tries to suppress India, to force us to give in, to crush us.” That is why, he added, the creators decided to depict Trump as a demon ultimately defeated by the powerful mother goddess Durga.
