U.S. President Donald Trump expressed his disappointment over Israel’s unilateral decision to strike the leadership of the terrorist group Hamas in the capital of Qatar, reports Baltimore Chronicle citing Ukrinform.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that Israel’s move to carry out an airstrike on the territory of Qatar, a sovereign state and a close U.S. ally, undermines Doha’s efforts to mediate in the peace process. She emphasized that such actions “do not advance the goals of either Israel or America.”
At the same time, Leavitt noted that eliminating Hamas, which profits from the suffering of people in Gaza, remains “a legitimate and important objective.”
According to her, Donald Trump views Qatar as a strong ally and close friend of the United States, which is why the location of the strike caused him particular concern.
The U.S. President held a phone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu following the incident on Tuesday. He also spoke with the Emir and the Prime Minister of Qatar, assuring them that such an event would not happen again on their soil.
“To be perfectly clear, the president does not agree with the location of the strike, and he conveyed this directly to Prime Minister Netanyahu,” Leavitt stressed.
