Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the €88 million Louvre Museum heist in Paris, but the stolen jewels remain missing as police hunt for more accomplices.

French law enforcement authorities have arrested two individuals suspected of involvement in the high-profile robbery at the Louvre Museum in Paris. Despite the arrests, the stolen jewels—estimated to be worth €88 million—have yet to be recovered, reports the Baltimore Chronicle citing Figaro and France Info.

The arrests reportedly took place on Thursday evening. One suspect was detained at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport while attempting to board a flight to Algeria. The second suspect was captured in the northern Paris suburb of Seine-Saint-Denis, where he was allegedly hiding following the heist.

According to France Info, authorities have so far confirmed the arrest of one suspect at the airport. Investigators, however, believe additional accomplices may still be at large and are actively pursuing new leads.

Police are currently tracking potential collaborators of the detained individuals, who may be apprehended in the coming hours. Despite the rapid progress of the investigation, all eight stolen jewels remain missing.

In total, French investigators are searching for four suspects: two who are believed to have directly entered the Louvre’s gallery and two others who allegedly assisted their escape on scooters.

Earlier reports from French media indicated that investigators suspect an inside job. One of the museum’s security guards is believed to have provided the thieves with details about the Louvre’s security system, enabling them to bypass several safety measures during the heist.
