Photo In the Vinnytsia region, a successful heart transplant from a deceased donor was performed for the second time.
The head of the Vinnytsia Regional Police Department, Sergei Borzov, announced this on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.
«On February 20, at the Vinnytsia Regional Hospital named after. M.I. Pirogov by specialists from the hospital and the Research Institute of Agricultural Sciences named after. MM. Amosov successfully performed a second heart transplant from a deceased donor in the Vinnytsia region, Borzov wrote.
According to him, on the same day, the hospital successfully transplanted kidneys to two patients who had suffered from severe kidney diseases for a long time and needed constant hemodialysis.
In general, on the basis of the Vinnitsa Regional Clinical Hospital named after. M.I. Pirogov have already performed 20 organ transplants from deceased donors, four of them in 2024.
As reported, over the 12 months of 2023, 507 transplantations were performed in Ukraine. In Ukraine, kidneys, liver, heart, lungs, and pancreas are transplanted. At the same time, about 5,000 people still need organ transplants.
