As noted, the goal of the document is to develop a sustainable, people-oriented healthcare system capable of providing high-quality medical care to all citizens, regardless of their ability to pay, and also overcome the complex healthcare problems associated with the ongoing war. .
“A full-scale war clearly showed us that such challenges for the medical system can only be overcome through joint efforts. The World Health Organization has always been and remains our strategic partner. Together we work not only to respond to emergencies, but also focus on reforming the Ukrainian healthcare system. In order for this movement to be as productive as possible, it is important to set clear priorities. These are exactly what is included in the published WHO Cooperation Strategy with Ukraine for 2024-2030, — noted the Minister of Health of Ukraine Viktor Lyashko.
The Strategy defines WHO's commitment to support Ukraine in its reform efforts health systems, noting the need to invest in health infrastructure, workforce development and reforms to achieve EU standards.
«Investment in the health system is critical to responding to the urgent needs caused by the war, and to laying the foundation for a healthy, more resilient Ukraine in the future. As WHO celebrates 30 years of continuous presence in Ukraine, we see this new strategy as a confirmation of our commitment to be close to Ukraine,” said WHO Representative in Ukraine Dr. Jarno Habicht.
Strategy focuses on three key priorities: ensuring universal access to quality health care, preventing and reducing major health risks, and supporting health system reforms. These priorities address the wide range of challenges facing Ukraine, including the severity of noncommunicable diseases, the threat of infectious diseases such as tuberculosis and HIV, and the need for comprehensive mental health and rehabilitation services.
WHO is planning closely collaborate with the Ukrainian government, international partners and local communities to implement the strategy. This includes using WHO's extensive network of experts and resources both in Ukraine and around the world to provide technical and operational support.
