Anne Arundel County Red Cross partnership is becoming more formal as local officials seek faster help for families after fires and other emergencies. The new agreement builds on years of joint preparedness, response and recovery work, as reported by Baltimore Chronicle.
WBAL NewsRadio reports that a memorandum of understanding formalizes cooperation between county emergency teams and the American Red Cross. The Anne Arundel County Office of Emergency Management also provides residents with local preparedness resources and alerts.
More Than 100 Local Disasters In One Year
Anne Arundel County experienced more than 100 local disasters during the past year. Most were house fires rather than large regional emergencies.
Preeti Emrick, director of the county Office of Emergency Management, said both organizations have worked together for years. Their cooperation covers preparedness, emergency response and recovery.
The partnership brings several services together:
- emergency assistance for families after disasters;
- coordination between Red Cross volunteers and county responders;
- support with immediate physical and emotional needs;
- preparedness work before major emergencies occur.
That coordination matters even when an incident affects only one household. A house fire may be small on a countywide scale, but devastating for the family involved.
Firefighters And Volunteers Coordinate Their Response
Fire Chief Trisha L. Wolford said the county has more than 1,500 firefighters serving residents and visitors. Red Cross volunteers provide another layer of support when people suddenly lose access to their homes or basic necessities.
Red Cross regional CEO Dale Kunce said volunteers and emergency personnel have repeatedly worked side by side during local incidents.

The American Red Cross recommends creating a household emergency plan, choosing meeting locations and preparing contact information in advance.
Anne Arundel County is also encouraging residents to register for Alert Anne Arundel, prepare emergency supplies and learn basic first aid or CPR.
For families, the message is practical: emergency agencies can respond faster when residents know what to do before help arrives.
